College admission essay serves as an applicant’s personal statement. It is autobiographical and, therefore, easy to write. However, when there are thousands of students applying to the same college as you are, a quality college admission essay that captures the selectors’ interest is essential. It should appeal to the hearts and minds of your readers, compelling them to read the essay from the first to the last word. You don’t need to use big words to make an impact on your readers. What’s more important is that you deliver your statements in a clear, concise, and confident manner. The purpose of colleges requiring admission essay from applicants is to know the person better behind the application. Emphasize your unique skills and strengths and never include skills you do not possess. The Admissions Board will know if you’re faking it, so be yourself.

Simply describing an event in your life or personal experience is not enough. The Admissions Board will look for a certain level of maturity in an applicant, and this can be expressed by your insight into the experience. You need to show how you have grown and reached greater self-awareness through the experience in your essay.

Lastly, be very specific. As with other types of writing, clichés, generalizations and abstractions are a big no-no. The college admission essay is no different. Letting your strengths unfold in the details is more effective, more moving than simply enumerating them. Remember, if you want to stand out from the rest, include particulars in your life that showcases your strength and skills. The particulars in your life are what make you distinct and unique.

For foreign students, studying in America and in a community college can be advantageous. Firstly, studying in a foreign country itself expands ones horizons. International students get exposed to different cultures. They get to learn a lot from people of different cultures. By meeting different people, international students can expect to become more competitive in whatever they do.

Community colleges are often misunderstood by people locally and internationally. They are thought to be providers of sub-standard education. These are just rumors. This should not deter international students to apply to community colleges. For students coming from different economies, studying in America can be an expensive proposition. Community colleges offer inexpensive and quality education. This should be a boon for international students.

Community colleges offer students not just academics, but a range of other activities as well. Students can get to learn many other skills. Community colleges concentrate a lot on building skills. While most other colleges concentrate on building the knowledge levels of students.

It must be said that at the end of the day, skill-based practical learning teaches a lot. And that is what specifically community colleges are all about. They impart skill-based workshops. Students can get to explore things that they would not have been able to if they were in another college. They could also discover certain talents they didn’t know they had.

Community colleges have a curriculum that can be used by students to transfer to other four-year bachelor’s degree institutions. The quality of education at community colleges gets students the readymade expertise to transfer to other colleges and complete the bachelor’s degree without any or little difficulty.

Everyone knows going to college is essential these days in order to be competitive in the work force. With more people going to college, getting into the college of your choice and earning the scholarships to get there is more and more competitive as well. Applying for college can sometimes seem like a job in and of itself! Thankfully, there are people who are experts in developing a winning college admission portfolio.

Knowing What Admissions Officers Want

Getting high GPAs is not all that most colleges want anymore; in fact, some don’t want students with 4.0′s anymore. Knowing what colleges want is half of getting accepted. You also need to highlight the specific areas of your qualifications to make your application standout in the crowd of applicants.

Writing the All-Popular Admission Essay

Most colleges now require an admissions essay. Sometimes it will be one or two pages, or it might only be 700 to 1,000 words. That isn’t a lot of space to let them know how wonderful you are and how much you can do for their college! Getting help with college admission essays is essential in getting accepted to your college choice. Many scholarships require essays as well, so having a good proofreader or editor on your team is a great asset.

Looking for and applying for scholarships can start as soon as the sophomore year in high school. One girl made it her hobby and had more than $200,000 in scholarship money by the time she graduated from high school! It sure alleviates lots of worry when college is paid for before you start!

Unforgettable college admissions essays are those that not only hit home. They are also those that have impact and have an insight that sets them apart from other essays. What is the stuff that good college essays are made of? It is one that contains all of the necessary ingredients from the start to be a readable piece that does more than just capture the attention and the human eye. It is an easy that delivers and something which flatters the majors that students are striving to achieve an education in and degree for in the end. The makings of a stellar college essay is one that rises above all the others and one that shines like a diamond in the rough.

The stuff that a good college essay is about is not just about superb writing either. It is also about making sure to stay within the confines of the word limit and to be as condensed as is possible. You should also strive to maintain your key point throughout the essay and to apply as much creativity as you can. You should strive to write the most engaging college essay possible if you are applying for Admission or for specific Scholarships. Your college essay should define why you are differerent as a person and why those differences make a difference in this world.

Good college admissions essays begin with solid brainstorming and it is what produces the topic you will use for your paper. The topic chosen combined with the best writing you are capable of personally will be the stuff that makes your college essay a winner.

There are many families which are financially not sound and usually in such families the child is very hard working and even intelligent and thus wants to study a lot but the family demands him to work since their school fees and others cannot be paid. Not only the government but all the schools and the colleges after checking the necessary documents of the students and their intellect gives the students some scholarships i.e. incentives on the students expenses which may be from 10 to even 100%.

The financial background of the family should not affect the future of the students and because of this reason the scholarship thing is being widely prevalent and moreover to stop the illiteracy scholarships are given. A student getting scholarships from the institute is not differentiated from other students and thus they don’t feel underestimated or embarrassing and thus they continue their studies and excel in life. The student’s family gets much help and many chances of family suicidal are being stopped because of these scholarships for the lower class family.

Many students who have got scholarships stop studying since they feel that they are not paying so what’s the harm if they don’t score well and that is the reason there are very few institutes that give 100 % scholarships to students since it can have a negative impact on the students career. Scholarships are just not for the lower class people but many students who want to study abroad and belong to middle class families even apply for scholarships which they get according to their score in the test.

It was to be an easy victory — you’ve received a scholarship, chosen what college you want to go to and soon you’re starting the next phase of your life.

Knowledge has become impossible to achieve, however, amongst the constant roar of your classmates. Dorm halls have proven to be counterproductive — demanding your time, energy and patience. So now you’re looking for an apartment off campus.

Finding a college-style home in Chicago won’t be a simple affair though. So here are some tips to help:

Cost

There is no concern greater than dollars and their limitations. Students — even those on scholarships — can find themselves overwhelmed by the endless expenses of an education. Knowledge isn’t cheap, so you need to first know what your budget is. Choose Chicago apartments that feature a less shocking cost, many of which are rented primarily to college students.

Proximity

The intention of a college style apartment is to capture the intimacy of school while offering the privacy that is too often denied. That privacy can become an inconvenience, however, if it’s too far removed from campus. Be certain that every option you consider is located close to your classes — or at least find ones that can access different transportation methods.

Amenities

University halls, despite their many concerns, boast undeniable diversity. You can form relationships among a variety of activities, events, and gatherings. It’s imperative that Chicago apartments offer that same atmosphere. Explore all neighborhoods, noting the local eateries, shops and meeting places. Be certain they will attract individuals of your age and interests.

Remember these suggestions to choose the perfect apartment.

There are so many different types of Majors available for students to look into for their college education. Everything from farming to engineering, to sewing, and even car interior design. Whatever the preference for a type of education may be, there truly is something for everyone. In fact, for those that are not able to obtain a full four year degree in one shot, they can go to a community college, seek out a two year vocational degree, then return to school later on to finish out the rest of the degree. In the meantime, they are able to quickly get to work and begin earning a living by having the proper certification in a short amount of time. Some of the Majors for this type of work include Dental Hygiene, Radiography, and many other field under the umbrella of the Allied Health fields. The other non-medical fields would include technology, computer programing, software design, day care, and even classroom aid. These are all degrees that can be earned from the community college level, and all the credits will later transfer on to a four year degree for the completion of a Bachelors.

For many, deciding the types of Major to declare can be difficult. For many this is the moment when they are truly deciding what they want to be when they grow up, and that can be stressful. There are many professions out there including teaching, business, and marketing, and more. Each come with their own set of requirements, and each have specific areas that can be declared. For instance, teaching can include elementary, Secondary sing subject, or special education. Regardless of the choice, many college students have until their third year of college to decide on their major, and so that gives them time to investigate their options.

When writing a college admission essay there are some important details to include. For instance, you want to have a nice part about who you are as a person, who you want to be as a professional, and how your efforts are going to impact the industry that you are looking to enter. This will help colleges gain an understanding of who you are as a person, and what you are desiring and looking for with their college program. This will also give you a good base of what to discuss if you are given the opportunity to meet with the Dean of students regarding your enrollment. It is important that you are detailed and honest about all of the information you provide, but remember, there are some things that are best left un-said. For instance, mentioning fights in school, not getting along with a sibling, or how your parents talk down to you should be something that would not be included in your essay. Remember, this is an entrance essay to a college, not a expository on why you are angry with your family.

The other aspects that you would consider including would be your academic career, or why you would work hard on your academics at this particular school. It is always wise to included your ambitions with the individual school, naming it by name, and making your essay personalized. You are allowed to use first person for these essays, but refrain from too many “we” and “let’s” usage. This tells the college that you might not fully respect their position as the deciding factors on your enrollment, and that can be taken in an off hand manner. Use good grammar, no contractions, and have a lot of natural language that you would use in a formal conversation.

There are many scholarships to be had when getting ready to begin college. They range from the traditional athletic and academic, to the bizarre and off the wall. For some people, the bizarre and off the wall is just the right ticket, and this will help them attain the educational goals that they have set out to gain. When applying for a scholarship, it is important to look at the requirements that the program has set out, in order to make sure you qualify. Even if you do not qualify, apply anyway, because if the scholarship is different enough, or has very odd requirements, the chances of you being the only applicant could be very high. In most cases, if there is only one applicant, and that applicant is not qualified, because he or she was the only one, they will be awarded the scholarship.

Some of the off the wall scholarships are for things like wood making, paint mixing, or book binding. This would be involved with the arts department, and if you are interested in obtaining a degree in art, this would be for you. For some of the odd requirements that a scholarship may have, it could include things like parents were truck drivers, or having to have lived in Nebraska for five years, but not longer than seven. Sometime scholarship writers make the scholarship details so odd in order to see who will take a chance on applying for them. Most times the writers are really not concerned about the exact details because the purpose of the providing the scholarship is not finding someone with odd details to their life, rather finding someone that is willing to venture out, seek out a scholarship, and do the necessary tasks to gain the scholarship. In many cases it is more of a respect issue rather than a qualifying issue, and many students are pleasantly surprised by the results of their efforts.

Graduation came and went, but those student loans aren’t going to go anywhere anytime soon. If you’re a recent graduate about to land a job, or even move from an unpaid position into a handsomely rewarding one, your educational debts have probably piled up. Rather than risk all that you’ve attended school for, it pays to know a few options available to you.

Forbearance is essentially a loan payment extension, or a halt in your pre-arranged payment plan, followed by a return to payments. However, interest is assessed in the interim, and can add a heavy burden to your total debt when you return to making payments. Deferment grants an extended period of time in which payments are not due; however, during deferment, the chains of interest accrual are not laid in place. The loan’s total amount doesn’t change during this time.

If, as is typical of struggling students, you required more than one loan to reach the graduation podium, you’ll probably notice a particular phenomenon when looking at your monthly bills. Certain loans charge higher, and some lower, interest rates. It doesn’t take an economics major to realize that getting the entire loan amount onto the lower interest payment schedule would save substantial money! This is where a debt consolidation service can enter the picture and turn that thinking into a reality.

Creating an all-in-one monthly student loan bill is a good step to take. It lessens the amount of time spent handling bill payments, which frees up precious time to deal with more career enhancing things. More importantly, it lessens the chances of a late or missed payment as your ‘bill pile’ is vastly reduced each month. With only a single payment owed each month, there’s less mental clutter involved in the handling of your finances. All of that is good for you, even if you did graduate with a degree in finance.

Title I scholarships are those scholarships that are offered for female athletes, especially those that are participating in male dominated sports. These sports include basketball, soccer, field hockey, la cross, and even wrestling. The latest in the big wave of female athletic scholarships offered is for women’s wrestling. The meccas for wrestling, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, are starting to put out large numbers of female wrestlers that are highly competitive. They are seen on recreational teams, and are competing against boys their own age. What may of the girls are finding is that they are losing on a regular basis to the boys, but when it comes to competing against girls their own age and weight, they are fiercely aggressive and competitive. This is creating a large draw for schools that are seeking new ways to attract students to their schools.

Title one scholarships were put in place to ensure that female athletes were not passed over because of gender. Today these scholarships are still available in large quantities because there simply are not as many female athletes as there are male. For some women to be considered for a scholarship they just have to prove that they are skilled in a particular sport, and having accolades is not a requirement. There has even been instances of women that qualify for title one scholarships that obtain a full ride to the university of their choice, but never play their sport because there are not enough women that participate to field a team. This is a unique situation that many female wrestlers have been finding themselves in until recently. In this type of situation athletes must appreciate the scholarship, and while not participating can be frustrating, just knowing that there was monetary recognition should be satisfying. This has been known to happen to women that were awarded scholarships for baseball and football, and due to the risk of injury never saw any playing time on a field, but received a free education.

Have you ever wondered what the point of all of these different tests that people have to take to get where they want in life? For almost every mile stone there is some kind of big test that can make it or break it for the person taking it.

Sure, testing is frustrating. And many people say that it is unfair. A lot of people have trouble with testing. Here’s the thing, though. A lot of people have trouble with life. Life is unfair, and it can be quite challenging. These tests, though maybe not the absolute best indicator of anything, can be helpful for gauging what a person is capable of. Most especially the GMAT Prep Course. If you want to be in an MBA program in many countries, you have to take, and pass, the GMAT test. Otherwise known as the Graduate Management Admission Test, this is needed to be accepted into most MBA programs. This test actually does not test your book knowledge; it is meant to test your intelligence, and how you work under pressure.

The reason this test is a great idea for those going into business is that those are the things that you need to succeed and thrive in the business world. You need to work well under pressure. You need to be able to think critically and make informed decisions. It’s a pain, but in reality, this test is important for those who want to pursue an MBA.

Next time you wonder the point of testing realize that it does more than score a person’s knowledge, but can be an indicator of their intelligence and capabilities as well.

There are many scholarships to be had in college, and one of the key ones is through athletics. There are many sports that universities offer, and based on the popularity of the sport depends on the budget the school has to offer students. For instance, there will be a lot of full ride scholarships for football. Full ride means that the student will not have to pay a dime of their own money to attend that school. It is includes room and board, books, registration, and of course all of the classes. They will also not have to pay for any of the costs associated with playing the sport, and all medical costs are included. This is what many students desire, and for athletic scholarships, this is the prime type. For others however, they will not be eligible for a full ride because the school simply does not offer that type of scholarship for that type of sport. The best example would be badminton. There are scholarships offered for this sport, and many of the scholarship athletes attend the Olympics, but due to the lack of popularity and attendance at matches, the school budget could never allow for a full ride scholarship player, and expect to field a team.

Other sports that offer nice scholarships include Volleyball, Softball, Baseball, and Basketball. These sport do draw a crowd, and therefore colleges are able to provide larger scholarships. This is all based upon popularity and how much revenue the school is receiving from ticket sales. The most popular sport by far is football, and this sport, especially for Division I schools, is able to pay for almost all the other sports scholarships combined. This means that the one sport is bringing in millions of dollars a year in order to help offset the costs of other awards. Badminton brings in two to three thousand in ticket sales, and that is not enough to fully pay for the equipment.

If you are a college student or a recent graduate, you might not be well-versed in all of the tax information that can affect your situation. Indeed, there is a lot to take in when you are talking about taxes. Here are some tax tips and items to keep in mind for when you file taxes.

Communicate with your parents about tax issues that can affect both parties. It will make a difference on your tax return, if, for instance, your parents want to claim you as a dependent. Make sure you go over issues with them to see what is best for the current situation.

Ensure that you have all of the correct forms when you file your taxes. Don’t neglect various aspects of your tax return when it comes time to file your taxes. For instance, if you have a child you can receive dependent tax deductions. These can make a big difference in the end with regard to your taxes.

Whether you’re in or out of school, beware of student loan interest. For some students and recent graduates, this can be in reference to quite a lot of money, which can mean more tax credits on your taxes. Make sure you take into account your student loan interest when you file your taxes – as this can make a noticeable difference for many students and recent graduates.

Watch out for other tax filing tips for students, as well as official tax information that you should be aware of for filing your taxes. While taxes are admittedly confusing for so many students and recent graduates, knowing these different elements can be advantageous when it comes to receiving your refund. Keep these tips in mind and don’t hesitate to contact a tax professional if you are unsure on how these aspects come together when it comes time to file your taxes.

Many four year universities require students to submit an essay as to why they would like to attend that particular institution. The purpose is not always as clear cut, and many students worry that there might be a secret agenda to eliminate students from the university’s student pool. However, universities are looking for some specific information when requesting essays. For instance, they want to know that a student can write a clear and concise thought. This is imperative for college and most of the work involved is through writing. Universities can also tell if a student will be able to handle the course work by looking at the way the essay is put together, what points are elaborated upon, and what type of verbiage is used. If a student is using very basic wording, the grammar structure is lacking, and there is not evidence of proof-reading, it could be indicative of a student that will struggle with higher level learning.

Many times however, universities are looking for the personal investment into their school and programs. This means that they essay should be a direct reflection of how the student is going to treat the program of study. If a student writes that they like school, and their classes are going to help them learn a lot, this does not tell the university anything about their goals, aspirations, how they will handle the course work load, and why that school is so desirable for the student. These are all aspects that a university wants to see because they want to make sure that their incoming students can handle the programs so that their school can maintain a high success and completion rate. Many schools are ranked based on completion rates, and when students fail or drop out, the school can be reviewed. The reviews tend to not be a positive reflection, so therefore many schools are proactive about curbing any type of student that could be a poor reflection on the institution.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASA) is a required document that opens the door to financial aid for college. The FASA form is time consuming and tedious but must be completed before pursuing grants, scholarships, and loans. Personal taxes should be filed prior to completion of the form in order to provide accurate information regarding finances. Filing the FASA form at the earliest time possible will guarantee access to financial aid early in the application process. Many types of funding are awarded on a first come first serve basis. The competitive aspect of grant an loan awards make it necessary to be prepared.

There are several grants available to students who have completed the FASA process. These grants include the Federal Pell Grant, Federal National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART), Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG), Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), and the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH).

A Federal Pell Grant are awarded to undergraduate students once a year. Award amounts depend on the program funding of the participating college. The Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant provides awards of $750.00 dollars to first year studies and $1,300.00 for second year students. A SMART grant provides up to $4,000.00 for students majoring in science and math. The funding awards provided by FSEOG vary between j$100.00 and $4,000.00 dependent upon a number of factors. Students who intend to teach can be awarded up to $4,000.00 through the TEACH grant.

Each of these grant opportunities can provide a foundation of financial support for the pursuit of a higher education. Awards require the completion of FASA by potential students, making this form an important aspect of obtaining a college education. The FASA document is available online and should be a first step in the process of college readiness.

Some individuals choose pursuit of a college education for the sole purpose of obtaining a degree. The majority of college attendees choose a higher education in order to pursue a specific career. Before selecting a field of study a student should evaluate personal life preferences and the economical factors associated with a career choice. Research into job availability in specific regional areas will be important to students who prefer a specific lifestyle. Evaluating careers areas that are declining or growing will identify areas supportive to the graduating students pursuit of a job. Information related to the wages of different occupations will provide the student a baseline of potential earnings related to their career choice.

Occupations that are currently experiencing large job growth include careers in the medical field, teaching, construction, accounting, computer engineers, and management analysts. Each of these fields offer a variety of different job types. Knowledge of the occupational requirements of the jobs included in a growing field will provide the information needed to establish an educational plan. Declining job markets include machinists, front line management and work in the field of agriculture. Consideration of the decline of jobs in these areas will be important when selecting a field of study.

When selecting a field of study that offers job opportunities in desired locations, research of the housing market and standards of living will allow comparison with the potential earnings associated with a career. An education will provide entry into a selected occupation and once a job is secured the financial aspect of supporting a lifestyle will become an important part of life. Long term insight into the final outcome of the college results is critical to the entire process. Choosing a college is not the first step for individuals who have a specific life plan. It is a result of a careful approach to the future.

There are many types of degrees to pursue when choosing a college education. A certificate program is another option for students seeking a short term educational program in a specific field. Certificates may be offered without prior college attendance or as a supplement to a degree. College degrees include an associates, bachelors, master and doctorate. Each of these degrees are pursued in steps with an associates or bachelors degree being the first step in the educational progression. Completion of all areas of study will be dependent upon a students desire and financial resources. Pursuit of a masters and doctorate degree are beneficial in the area of career advancement.

An associates degree involves a two year attendance at a community, junior or technical college. An associates degree is equivalent to the first two years of study at a four year college or university. When pursuing an associates degree, it is important to determine if the courses taken can be transferred to a four year college in the event that a student wants to continue their education. A bachelors degree is usually completed in four years with some fields of study requiring a longer period of time. The bachelors degree may be awarded with Latin honors based on grade point averages. These honors include cum laude, magna cum laude, summa cum laude and maxima cum laude. A masters degree is pursued after completion of the bachelors degree and involves a specific field of study. Pursuit of a doctorate degree will qualify a student as a teaching expert in their chosen area of expertise.

Students may begin pursuit of a higher education with only an interest in obtaining a certificate or basic degree. This plan of action can easily transition into a higher field of study as progression is made. Research prior to beginning an educational plan will ensure a smooth transition through the academic degree process.

Choosing which educational field to pursue is the most important step for a prospective college student. Higher education requires a commitment of time and money that would be wasted as a result of the wrong choice. Older students with many life experiences will have a strong understanding of their strengths, weaknesses and areas of interest. Their experience will allow an easy selection when choosing a field of study. The young student will have limited life experience, requiring the utilization of several approaches in order to identify the best field of study. Parents can provide guidance and assist in developing a plan for their student.

Students interested in the fields of medicine should be exposed to a medical environment prior to committing to a long term, costly education. Visiting hospitals and nursing homes will place the student in the environment they will be spending their life in if they choose the medical field of study. Scheduling an interview with a family doctor will allow the student to discuss the day to day activities associated with this type of career. Parents of students interested in law can assist their child by exposing them to the court system. Attendance at a trail will provide a first hand view of a lawyer in action. Visiting a law firm can allow a student to witness the tedious part of a law career. Other areas that require the pursuit of a higher education can be approached in the same manner.

Students who enter the college experience should be prepared and committed to the field of study selected. This requires a basic knowledge of the area chosen that can only be obtained by exposure to the field. Both parents and schools have the ability to ensure that information is available to a student as they make the most important decision of their life.

A Direct Stafford Loan is a low interest loan provided to students for financing their education. The loan can be used to cover the costs of college, career, trade or technical higher education. The student borrows the money from the participating school. The funds are supplied through the Department of Education. There are two specific types of Stafford Loans. The direct subsidized loans are provided for students who present a financial need. Financial offices of selected educational programs will review the information provided by the student through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and determine loan amounts. No interest is charged while the student is enrolled. Direct Unsubsidized Loans do not require proof of financial need. The participating school will determine the loan amount available to a student. Unsubsidized loan interest begins to accrue with the first payment made. Students can pay the interest while in school or allow it to accrue.

A completed FASA will be required prior to applying for the Direct Stafford Loan. Receipt of the loan is dependent on completion of a Master Promissory Note that outlines the students commitment to repay the loan. The Direct Stafford Loan includes both yearly and total limits to the amount that can be borrowed. Amounts vary and are identified by dependent and independent students. The maximum allowable debt for dependent students is $31,000.00 and the maximum for independent students is $57,500.00. Current interest rates of the subsidized loan is 4.5% for undergraduate students and 6.8% for graduate and professional degree students. Unsubsidized loans carry an interest rate of 6.8%.

When a student graduates, leaves school, or drops below half-time enrollment they must begin repayment of the loan within six months. Repayment plans vary between time periods of ten to twenty five years based on the plan selected by the student.

Although you can throw caution to the wind with many things, certain decisions require careful thought and consideration. Selecting the right online school is one of those major life choices. Let’s take a look at some tools to help you make this important decision:

Decide on a Degree

Before choosing an online school, determine your goals. Once you know what you want to get out of an online degree program, look for a university that specializes in your area of interest. Review the success rates of their graduates to find out what to expect. Before making your choice, find out how many graduates are able to find a job in their field of choice.

Review All Information

See what people are saying about each school. Some things to consider include:

Is the school’s online material easy to use and is the site reliable?

Is on-site testing required?

Will a live instructor be available for questions if necessary?

Is the tuition rate affordable?

Will the credits transfer if you decide to switch schools?

Is the staff helpful if you have a technical problem?

Use Online Resources

Finding out everything you should know about an online university can be a daunting task. Instead of spending hundreds of hours scouring individual websites, use elearners.com to help make this an easier task. This type of site outlines everything you need to know to make this important decision. It allows you to read college reviews, go over the school statistics, and even see the online degree programs offered by each school. Although this process will dramatically shorten your research time, you shouldn’t cut corners on your decision making process. To save both time and money, it’s important to get this one right the first time!

By taking the time to carefully evaluate each online university on your list of choices, you’ll have a better chance of choosing the perfect school to meet your educational needs!

The American College Testing (ACT), provides an evaluation of a students readiness for college. This testing was introduced as a competitor to the SAT and is popular in the Midwestern and Southern areas of the United States. The SAT remains the testing of choice on the east and west coast of the United States. Criticism of the SAT has increased the popularity of the ACT. The ACT is offered six times a year and allow the student to choose the standard exam or standard plus writing. Cost of the ACT exam ranges from approximately forty to fifty dollars depending on which exam is selected.

ACT testing is divided into the areas of reading, English, mathematics and science. Scoring of the test includes an average of the results from these four areas. Students who choose to take the ACT plus writing will complete an essay in addition to the standard test. The result of the writing evaluation does not impact the score received on the other areas of the test.

The English portion of the test offers seventy five questions that test the students ability to identify correct sentence structure. Reading is measured through forty questions that identify the students ability to comprehend the subject matter presented. Science reasoning is evaluated through forty questions that provide seven passages followed by questions related to the passage. The mathematics portion of the test consists of sixty questions that include the areas of geometry, algebra and trigonometry. Students who select the optional writing portion of the test will complete an essay in response to a given prompt.

Many colleges require an essay score to meet admission requirements and students should consider this factor when deciding which type of ACT test they complete. Students with verifiable disabilities can complete the exam with accommodations. Scores of the ACT will be provided to the student, their high school, and up to four colleges.

The SAT test has been known as both the Scholastic Aptitude Test and Scholastic Assessment Test. It functions as an evaluation to determine a students readiness for college, measuring aptitude across several areas of study. The SAT is developed by the College Board which is a non-profit organization in the United States. The Educational Testing Service administers the exams that are offered seven times a year. Areas covered by the SAT include mathematics, reading and writing. Each of these areas are assigned 800 points in the test, making the highest score possible 2400. Students can expect to pay approximately $50.00 for the testing, which last four hours.

Critical reading is measured on the SAT through three sections of testing. This reading portion gets progressively more difficult as the student complete each section. The students understanding of sentence structure and vocabulary is evaluated through a series of questions asked regarding specific reading passages that are provided.

The writing section of the SAT includes 70% multiple choice questions. A required essay completion constitutes 30% of the grade. Questions included in the multiple choice section measure a students ability to improve a sentence or paragraph and identify sentence errors. The essay portion provides a prompt that the test taker responds to.

Mathematics testing includes both multiple choice and grid in questions. Questions related to algebra and scatter plots are included on the test. The mathematics portion of the SAT is divided into three separate sections. Calculators can be used to complete the exam.

Students can prepare for the SAT through a variety of resources. These include classes, tutoring, books, and board games developed to provide SAT readiness. Students can expect to receive the results from their SAT exam within a month after taking the test. Completion of the exam should be scheduled to allow for timely receipt of the results that will be necessary during the college application process.

No one ever thought it would be a difficult decision of which online school to choose because, hey, it’s an online school. What difference is there? You’re using your laptop or desktop, you turn in your work, and there you go. There’s no difference between any two schools, right? Wrong.

While the traditional educational method required an extensive research project combining both field studies and reading up on some of the universities and what they offer, you would think all of that would go out the window when dealing with online classes. The fact is a decision to pursue an online degree is just as difficult and equally important as pursuing a traditional brick-and-mortar degree. There are just different factors to take into account.

For instance, if you don’t have the means of transportation (which is why you’d probably be searching for a reputable online university in the first place), you’d have no other way to learn about online schools other than what’s online. There’s a hefty amount of material out there, so start your searching. Starting with EarnMyDegree.com is a great way to go. Recognize that not every virtual school offers the same fields of study, so do your research accordingly. Also what you typically can do traditionally regarding learning about a university (visiting the campus), you can’t do with a virtual school. You can’t talk to other students, nor can you talk to any professors on the job. What you can do is talk to other students who have attended the online school you’re interested in to get feedback on how their experience was, thereby making a better informed decision. Another consideration is the cost of the tuition, so confirm there’s room in the budget to pay for schooling.

Don’t be fooled by the convenience of cyberspace. Choosing an online school is still just as important and time-consuming as before. So get to it! Do your research. Most of all, enjoy your studies.

High school students should begin preparing for the college experience long before their senior year. The junior year of high school will be the best time for identifying potential colleges and selecting the ones to visit. Once a student has identified the final choices, they will begin the senior year ready to take action on becoming a member of the selected university. The senior year will involve registering for required tests, completing admissions and financial aid forms and making a decision regarding where the student will obtain their education. The entire process will demand an organized approach in order to stay on target.

In September of the senior year, students need to register for ACT and SAT tests. Other activities during this month will include establishing a timeline for completing all of the necessary tasks associated with the application process. The month of October should be the targeted time for completing the ACT and SAT testing. College admission applications should be completed and mailed during the months of December and January. Applications may require teacher recommendations, school transcripts and essays. Pursuit of financing a college education should be initiated in the months of January and February. Within a few weeks of submitting application forms, follow up with the college admissions office to confirm that all necessary information was received. The same follow up should be taken with the financial aid office regarding grants, scholarships, and student loans.

Early spring of the senior year will bring confirmation of college acceptance. When a student has applied to multiple universities, the receipt of acceptance letters will present the need for a final decision. Review of the financial aid associated with specific campuses may become a determining factor when selecting the college to attend. After a selection is made, the student will be required to submit a letter of commitment and upfront payments.

Funding your higher education is an important aspect of beginning the college experience. Each college campus has options for financing a portion of your costs through one of three programs. There are three federal programs that are identified as campus based funding due to the fact that they are administered directly by the financial aid office of the college’s that participate in the program. Not all colleges provide all three programs, which makes it necessary to contact the financial office of the campus you plan to attend in order to determine what funding is available.

The Federal Work Study (FWS) program provides funding awards for part time work to students who have a financial need. Work hours will be determined by evaluating academic progress, class schedule and the total amount o the FWS award. The pay rate for the jobs assigned will be at least minimum wage and paid to the student at least monthly. Students participating in this program may be assigned to work on or off campus.

Funding through the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is provided for students with exceptional financial need. The award amounts are between $100.00 ad $4,000.00 based on the funding available and campus policies. This funding is not loan that has to be repaid.

A Federal Perkins Loan is processed through a campus’s financial aid office. The school acts as the lender of the loan with funds supplied by the government. Undergraduate student can receive up t $5,500.00 per year and graduate students may be awarded up to $8,000.00 a year. This low interest (5%) loan must be repaid to the school.

Each of these funding opportunities can provide the needed support of pursuing a college education. Success with award amounts will require a proactive and timely approach in order to secure the funds.

A college education is necessary in certain fields of work and beneficial in areas that do not require a college education for employment. A higher education can open doors that would be closed without one. The college experience is available to anyone and pursued by individuals of all ages. College is no longer limited to students exiting high school and is pursued by individuals that have started their career as well as seniors. Cost can be a factor that limits a persons college options, making it important to review cost effective options.

Tuition assistance provided by an employer is one way to reduce the cost of college. Many companies provide tuition reimbursement for their employees and some offer assistance to the children of employees. Several universities offer life experience credits which can reduce educational costs for individuals who complete a required packet of information that validates the credits. Serving in the armed forces will provide funding for education. For the younger student, living at home while attending college can save several thousand dollars a year. Acedemically and athletically talented students have a variety of scholarships available to them. There are also scholarships that are awarded to individuals with specific talents. These may include drama, art, music or journalism.

The choice of which college to attend will have a direct impact on final costs. Selecting the best fit that falls within your budget will require research into all options available. One effective way of saving money when pursuing an education is by attending a community college for two years and transferring to a four year college for the remainder of your education. This process can save thousands of dollars in college costs. The ability to attend college is open to anyone who is willing seek out all options available to them.

For those needing assistance to pay for their college tuition, there are an abundance of scholarships available. Knowing how to find them and how to apply for them successfully is the key to being approved. Most college financial advisors are very willing to help the student research which scholarships they may be eligible for. There are general grants that are approved for nearly everyone that applies for them. Many students use regular grants and scholarships to help pay for their tuition, but there are many scholarships that can be useful, that are not as well known.

One such type of scholarship that is available is for children or family members of military families. Often times many students are not told that these are available, so they may miss out on a great opportunity to get financial aide. The rules and regulations for these types of scholarships change often, but they are well worth looking into if one of your parents are currently, or has previously served in a branch of the military.

Various groups of nationalities also offer scholarships to young students. If you are of Hispanic ancestry, there may be grants available for you from ethnic groups that offer help with tuition. American Indians are also known to provide occasional scholarship grants to those that can prove they have some American Indian ancestry. The same goes for those of African American decent.

Corporations and large businesses often times provide scholarship money for those that meet the criteria. There are special grants available for those that have a specific talent and have been trained in music or dance. Many women’s group’s get together and provide assistance to children of single mothers, for instance. Although these grants are fewer in number, because so few people know about them, the chances of receiving them are even better. When looking for a scholarship, don’t stop after applying for just a few. The key is to be persistent.

Scholarships are used to pay for either part of a students tuition cost, or sometimes all of it, plus some extra. Most types, unlike student loans, do not require the student to pay them back, which is always nice. By using a scholarship, many students that want to attend college but can’t really afford it, are able to enroll and take the necessary classes they need.

Two main types of scholarships are available to most students. One is the type that goes by need. This is for students that have parents that don’t have a high annual income. Many of these types cover not only the tuition fees, but also help the student in purchasing books and materials. They may also provide extra cash for items like food, any special clothing or uniforms needed for the school or even items such as transportation to and from classes. Oftentimes this type of scholarship includes housing allowances that allow the student to live on campus, assuring that they will be able to get to all of their classes as needed.

Another type of scholarship is based on a students grades and past records that include good attendance, being in honor classes, or receiving awards for items such as sports, music, dance or a number of other items. A test will normally be given to see where the student scores best, and which subjects they show more aptitude in.

Other types of scholarships include those based on certain religions, ethnicity or gender. Many smaller scholarships are often offered by businesses and companies. Churches and other private organizations also many times offer scholarships to students. Grants are available for those that wish to attend college for specific careers.

Applying for all scholarships that you are eligible for is a great idea, because you may be eligible for more then one, which will ease the financial burden of attending school.

There are so many ways to consider which career you should decide on. Most students start out by taking courses for only those subjects in which they are extremely interested in. That’s not necessarily a bad idea, because there is nothing wrong with enjoying your job, but before you jump in and only choose subjects that you “like”, you may want to look at some of the other guidelines that are suggested for those that are still unsure which career path they should take.

First off, think of your dream job. Think about what you would consider being the perfect job to have until you are at retirement age. If this is a job that is actually in high demand, there’s nothing wrong with following that dream. If the job you think you would absolutely love doing is too off the beaten path, it might make a better hobby then a source of employment.

If being wealthy very quickly after college is something you want, make sure you choose your studies in a matter that will allow you to instantly get hired into the position you desire. Many millionaires had to work as dishwashers for years until they managed to work their way up the ladder. Getting rich quickly isn’t usually an option, unless you are very lucky.

If need be, make a list of what you are interested in, and then make another list next to that with the jobs you know are available in that field. If you want to be a doctor, but cannot afford eight years of college, you might be able to cut the schooling in half and start out as a Registered Nurse, then gradually go on to become a physician. There’s nothing wrong with working your way up the ranks if it is impossible for you to manage the whole amount of time you need at once.

All students applying for college are required to fill out an application, or sometimes several different types of them. Years ago the questions asked consisted mainly of basic topics such as your name, address and educational background. Today the applications can sometimes be quite nerve wracking, due to the intense and complicated questions that are asked. Not only do most students have to provide more personal information then ever before, but many are also required to write essays and have a verbal, in-person interview before being considered.

Filling out the application can be less stressful if you follow a few basic tips from others that have recently done the same. First, be sure you understand the question completely before writing in your answer. A scribbled and corrected application will look untidy. If you are unsure of a question, ask for help from one of the student advisors. Make sure you fill in the application thoroughly. Don’t leave anything to chance by leaving a space blank, unless that is an option.

When turning in your application, be ready to produce more documents. Many times a college or university will want copies of your high school records, along with any types of awards you may have earned while in high school. You will also more then likely need a proper form of identification, along with any paperwork that has been given to you previously, especially if you are studying and attending a school abroad.

Make a list of the schools you would like to attend. Having more then one in mind is wise, just in case you are unable to enroll for some reason. Find out which schools offer the courses you need for graduation, and also check into any special areas of interest that you have to see if there are clubs or organizations you can join . Carefully filling out your application is the first step in enrolling in the school of your choice.

Quite a few colleges require students that are applying to their school to submit an essay. This has become one of the best ways for colleges to grasp what the students potentials might be, along with getting a better feel of the students personality and interests. Because it plays such a major role in identifying which students might be eligible, many students get very nervous about writing their essay paper.

Each school has their own set of rules and requirements concerning essay papers. Many let the student choose the subject or theme on their own, but many will assign a topic for you to write about, which can be a little more stressful if it happens to be something that you know very little about. It can be done though, especially if you follow a few tips from others that have had the same experience. Most former essay writers advise those getting ready to write their essay to stay calm about it, and to look at it as they would any other essay they’ve ever been assigned to write. Becoming overly nervous about it may cause you to have writer’s block.

If you are lucky enough to be allowed to write an essay of your own choosing, it is always best to write about something that you know well. Make the essay unique, but try not to veer off on simply including statistics or other topics that might not hold the readers attention. Ask yourself questions about the subject you have chosen, then research each answer thoroughly, even if you know quite a bit about the subject matter. Don’t be afraid to use your imagination and even a sense of humor, if that is your true personality. Sometimes reading a good down-to-earth essay will get you in the door more quickly then writing a boring piece that doesn’t hold anyone’s attention. Pay special attention to proper spelling and punctuation.

For those attending college anywhere other then the United States, the term bursary may be used. This is the same thing as a scholarship or grant that is used by students that require financial assistance to attend a higher form of education such as college or a trade school. Bursaries are normally given to students whose parents meet the financial requirements of eligibility. The students grade point average may also play a role in eligibility, but not always. Bursaries are used by many students that otherwise may not be able to attend the college and training that they need to get the job they would like to hold in the future.

All schools tend to have their own set of requirements for a student to be considered for a bursary, but most tend to require that the student provide the necessary proof of eligibility including the income from their parents. Also included in being considered for this type of grant is proof of how many assets the parents have, along with proof of their annual income. Applications must be filled out in full and carefully so as not to make mistakes that may be misleading. Once the student is approved, the Board will most likely review the case and information yearly to make sure that the student is still eligible. If needed, they will ask for new proof or verification that the parents financial status has not changed.

Some students may only be eligible for a partial bursary, but this is still quite beneficial in helping to pay for the costs the student will face when entering school. Other types of this grant include special financial aide for students that have done well in their exams during their earlier school years. Many times these special grants are given by large businesses or companies for outstanding grades and performance.

Receiving an academic scholarship can be extremely helpful for a student wishing to enter college. The financial strain of attending school can be hard on many families, but for the student that has maintained a high average of grades throughout high school, the academic scholarship can be easily obtained and a real help in paying for the college education they strive to have.

There are many different ways to obtain an academic scholarship. One is by continually having a good grade point average during high school. When applying for this type of grant, the scores you earned in high school will count for quite a bit of the approval rate. Also, students that attended honors classes will be more likely to obtain consideration for an academic scholarship. Other things such as good attendance and having one of the highest grade point averages for that particular high school will make you stand out and possibly raise your chances of receiving the scholarship.

To apply for an academic scholarship you will first need to research what is available according to your needs and to see if you meet the eligibility requirements for that particular grant. You will then need to fill out the application very carefully, making sure that you leave nothing blank, unless that option is stated. You may be required to write an essay on any given subject. This may count towards your chances of being eligible for the grant, so write it to the best of your ability and have others give their true opinions on it before submitting it. After submitting your essay you are almost always required to attend an in-person interview which is also a very important part of the application process. Patience and perseverance is a large part of obtaining an academic scholarship. If you are turned down for one, try for another. There are a wide variety available to apply for, so being persistent is a necessary trait.

Almost all students need to apply for scholarships to attend college. For those graduating from high school, the time to start searching for grants is before graduation day. For those wishing to apply for athletic scholarships, the time is even sooner. Getting an athletic scholarship can make the financial burdens of attending college less severe.

Deciding which career path to take is an important step in deciding your future. There are many tips that can help you decide which courses to take in your studies. Many students find out the hard way that even if they graduate with honors, their job field may not be one that is in demand, which usually forces them to return to school and take even more classes for something that is in higher demand in the job force. This can be avoided by researching which fields are have openings, and which have been proven over the years to supply necessary employment opportunities.

One of the most important factors in choosing what subjects to study is to research not only something that you are interested in learning, but also a job that has a steady field of openings, such as the medical field. Although the demand for medical students has slacked off some in recent years, there are almost always openings in some type of the medical field. If you are unsure that you would truly be interested in doing such a job, you can always start your raining at the bottom and see how well you adapt.

This can be done by taking the shortest classes that give you a certificate, such as nursing assistants. Nursing assistants can receive certification within as little as two months time and immediately begin work, as there is nearly always job openings for this type of medical worker. Although the pay is one of the lowest in terms of the medical practice, it can give you the opportunity to see if you are interested in nursing. If you find that you are and are capable of doing the work, you can go on with your studies and take classes to become a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered Nurse, which pays much better then that of a nursing assistant.

Choosing which career you will follow can be fun and exciting, but a bit confusing at times too. If you have already chosen your career path, you will be able to choose the subjects needed to get your degree or certification, with help from the schools student advisory board. If you are unsure what you would like to do or which courses to take, there are several ways to find out what best suits your interests, needs and strong points.

One way to figure out which areas of studies you might do well in is to take an aptitude test. Nearly all colleges offer these tests to potential students that have not quite made up their minds about their future career choices. An aptitude test most normally covers a very large array of subjects in which the student will answer questions that start out being very general, but get harder as the test progresses. Many students are quite surprised at the outcome of the test scores. Those thinking they could or would never be interested in the medical field, may find that they have an aptitude for just that. Those wishing to be nurses may find that they have a strong area of knowledge in the mechanics or electricians field. Taking an aptitude test is a great way to see what your inner strengths and interests really are.

Another way to choose the best career path is to speak with others that are currently attending the school you have in mind. By doing this, you may be able to get a better grasp about the subjects you think you are interested in. It’s also a good way to get different opinions on what the teachers are like that teach those specific subjects, so you can better know if you will be interested in taking that particular subject or if it would be better to choose another.

The reality of college athletics is that nearly 95 percent of all student-athletes were not recruited. So unless you can dunk like LeBron James or throw a football like Peyton Manning, then you most likely will have to do a little work to get noticed. Even with those odds, anyone aspiring to attain an athletic scholarship shouldn’t be daunted. There are hundreds of universities out there offering programs in thousands of different sports. Somewhere, a spot is open.

However, to be considered for the team, and subsequently an athletic scholarship, there is only one person’s interest that matters, and that is the coach. Only the coach will decide who is worthy enough to deserve a full ride with one of their limited number of scholarships. This makes the competition fierce and highly important that the coach be aware of your athletic abilities.

Prospective student-athletes should firstly look at a university’s web page for their athletic department. Many provide the initial steps for scholarship consideration. This generally includes an online questionnaire, which should be filled out thoroughly and accurately.

However, efforts shouldn’t end there. It is advised to contact the coach directly, preferably via email at first. Such an email should resemble a resume and include contact information, athletic accolades, statistics, as well as community service. Academic achievements should also be highlighted, from GPA to ACT and SAT scores. It is helpful to provide truthful analysis from your high school coach about your abilities too.

Most importantly, especially with digital media, is provide the coach with film of your game performances. Film can be sent in a file or on a disc. If possible, get creative and edit your very own highlight reel.

If you’ve yet to receive a response, always try sending further correspondence by email or snail mail. Remember, there are hundreds of other athletes doing the same, so be patient, and lobbying for an athletic scholarship shouldn’t begin before your junior year.

In the past, when a college student was interested in applying for scholarships they had to rely on the efforts of an adviser and thick reference books. While those things are still very helpful, the Internet has made the search easier and greater in scope. Students can now find scholarship offers that were once obscure, as well as receive notices from new ones that pop-up on social media like Facebook and Twitter provided by corporations or non-profits. However, even with this advantage, students should formulate a plan and become knowledgeable with a few things before they begin the hunt.

Students interested in scholarships should always start looking early. For college freshman, the search should begin as early as sophomore or junior years of high school. Meanwhile, those already in college should be working towards scholarships for the following semester. Beginning early lets student find out everything available and their respective requirements.

Getting ahead on searching for scholarships also buys time for students to meet the prerequisites for each one. They can range from community service hours served to a minimum GPA. Taking steps to cover each prerequisite will help sort out what scholarships can be applied for now, and what needs to be done to apply for others in the future.

Scholarship hunters should list all areas where they feel they can qualify with certainty. While it may seem strange, race and ethnicity are major factors. Many minorities from Native Americans to African Americans can apply for scholarships given to only those of each race. Equally important is concentrating on scholarships that are relative to a student’s field of study. If it is nursing, searching among medical scholarships would be much more appropriate than spending time browsing ones offered for artistic accomplishments.

Lastly, each student should be aware of their financial situation. Doing so allows a student to estimate how much assistance they need, as well as when to seek other financial help like loans.

While for some college freshman, the hardest choice they will encounter is what to get on a late-night pizza, others are faced with one that will decide their education for the next three years. What type of major to pursue? Some students are lucky enough to have the question answered before even graduating high school. While the rest are left to declare the ambiguous “No Preference” on their applications. Finding the right answer can be done from two perspectives: personal or empirical. Simply, students can decide using their gut or using their head; either way, the majority of students will find they made the right choice.

Finding a major from a personal standpoint is predicated on what a student loves to do. Not only what kind of work they enjoy, but also what they enjoy doing in their free time as well. For example, nearly every video game designer is an avid player too. Once a student figures out what they enjoy doing they can then research fields of study with courses that are directly related or similar. But before declaring that major, students should take into consideration the necessary work that needs to go into a job in that industry and what compensation is available. Some jobs may be enjoyable, but not pay enough to cover the tuition.

From a practical point of view, students can judge what major appeals to them by researching what programs are strongest at their university. A university can excel at anything from business to packaging and hold a high reputation from hiring managers in those fields. In addition, it is important to take notice of current career trends in each industry. This entails researching what fields are hiring and growing, along with what careers seem to be paying high salaries. It is equally helpful to look into the types of companies or organizations that operate in those industry and decide if they would make an ideal employer.

It’s true the subject for many admission essays for college are very general and vague. They either ask you to state why you deserve to be admitted into their university, or questions about what makes you unique. Colleges use essays not only to assess your writing ability and garner a little background info about you, but also to see how creative you can be, how dedicated you are and if you can make yourself stand out. Unfortunately, some applicants go a little overboard to separate themselves from the pack by writing about some off the wall topics. Here are examples of what material to never include in a college admission essay:

Experience With Drugs
Some applicants may feel the need to include information about low points in their past–including their drug use–to either show how they were once rebellious but are now mature, or how they can overcome adversity. But you’re not applying for a spot on Oprah, so don’t even think of trying to write a “from drug addiction to redemption” sob story. It will not work. The same goes for time in the slammer.

Personal Issues
Another thing the admissions board at universities would rather not hear about is your love life. Unless you loved Ronald Reagan, in a fan sort of way, and you want to follow in his footsteps, then leave the word love behind. You should also exclude stories of unflattering characteristics or moments. Colleges do not like stalkers.

Jokes
Sure, humor is an endearing personality trait. But if you show a college that you can’t take their admission process seriously, then why would they think you would take their school seriously?

A Travelogue
Flights to faraway lands are cheaper and more abundant than ever before. So, it’s really not that unique that you’ve been the exotic lands of the United Kingdom, or experienced the local culture that abounds in sunny Cancun, Mexico. Keep travel stories out.

Filling out a college application is a highly detailed processed, designed by admission departments to make as informed a decision as possible. For the average school, out of tens of thousands of applicants it can only pick a few thousand. Which is why every college applicant should make a checklist like the one below, and like a jolly man with a white beard, check it twice.

1. Be highly conscious of the deadline. If there is one thing colleges won’t like to see from a student before even admitting them is tardiness.

2. Remember the 3 Ss: spelling, spelling and spelling. Misspelling your name isn’t the best way to impress an admissions office. Also, look for other mistakes–no matter how silly–like the wrong name of the school or other inaccurate information. Falling victim to these mistakes will have a school wondering just how serious you are about them.

3. Review the entire application twice to be certain that every field is filled as directed. Missing something that seems rather unimportant like your date of birth is grounds for other candidates to be selected over you.

4. Make sure all of the required materials are attached and in order. These can be transcripts, letters of recommendation, grades and test scores.

5. If an essay is required, thoroughly proof and edit it. Length should also be a major concern, as you do not want to write more or less than is needed. Doing that can make schools believe you are unable to follow directions or adapt your work when necessary.

Once the application is correctly completed, there are still a couple things to be certain of. If you’re going to send it through the mail, be positive that the right amount of postage is on the envelope. And if you decide to submit it over the Internet always be sure that you received a confirmation either on the screen or through email.

Unlike high school movies where seniors spend more time solving romantic trysts than studying, the last year of high school is very important for the next step: college. If you’re a senior, you need to not only keep your grades up, but complete every little thing involved in the college application process. The senior year should go a little something like this:

August
If you haven’t taken the ACT or SAT yet, it’s time to schedule now before it’s too late. Seniors should start comparing colleges and even scheduling visits if possible, as well as going over particulars about each college’s admissions process.

September
Meet with counselors and college representatives to better decide which schools would be right for you. Get applications from each school of interest, and start working on college essays, if required. Ask for letters of recommendation.

October
The list of potential college choices should be getting much smaller at this point. But if you have one or two colleges chosen as finalists, now is the time to consider applying early. You should be finishing any college essays and taking advantage of any college fairs. Start researching financial assistance and scholarships.

November
If you have decided to apply early this is the time to submit applications, usually in the first two weeks of the month. Make sure the Ts are crossed and Is are dotted on each application. Continue to research possible scholarships.

December/January
For students applying through regular admission, now is the time to complete applications. For students that applied early and already have received acceptance they need to start preparing and make sure they are keeping their grades to par. Everyone should be completing financial aid forms like FAFSA.

February/March/April
Be patient and keep high school activities on track. Organize any acceptance and rejection letters as they come.

Summer
Finish the last month strong, then graduate. Make sure you are not missing the final application deadlines. Pick your school.

It’s hard enough for college students to finally pick a major to pursue, but that only means their work is only half done. Within each major are a plethora of fields, and although they fall under the same subject, that can be surprisingly different. For example, business administration is the home to a collection of business related industries that range from banking and finance to accounting and human resources.

Such a diverse set of programs creates a dilemma for many students who have an industry in mind, but not yet a direction. Finding the right field however, is much like the process of choosing a major. It’s a balance of what a student enjoys with what they want in a career.

To begin, think about what courses you have taken that you’ve excelled at. More specifically, what courses did you take that made you choose your major? If you enjoyed a communications course that covered demographics and media, then studying public relations in a communications major might be your answer. Or if you decided on a business major after taking an economics class, then maybe international finance would be appropriate.

If the above solution doesn’t work, students should then spend time researching their college’s credentials. What fields offered in your major does your college have a stellar reputation in? If you decided to major in liberal arts because it’s the school’s highest rated program, find out what makes that so. It would be more beneficial to attain a degree in the field that has the greatest national reach.

Lastly, there is always the outside world that can provide an answer. What fields in your major are experiencing the greatest job growth? It might be a mistake to obtain an engineering degree in aeronautics, when mechanical engineers are in high demand while the aerospace industry is downsizing. Remember, the goal after college is finding and job, so study the field that helps you accomplish that.

The college application process can be a stressful time for high school students. They have to spend time researching each one, weighing the pros and cons, then go through all the work to complete the application which can include the all important college essay. If that isn’t enough, there is the waiting period that can test anyone’s patience.

For a student that is ambivalent about the school they get accepted to, it isn’t as bad. But for a student that has been dreaming about one particular school–maybe because everyone in their family went there or it has the best program for their career field–it can be a nightmare. The best way to alleviate all the stresses of the college application is just to take your mind off it all.

Concentrate on High School
Face it, even though you are on your way to college, you still have time left in high school, which means unfinished business. Colleges will take into consideration scores and grades after you submit your application, so it’s imperative to keep them up to par. The curriculum and extra-curricular activities of high school should also will keep you too occupied to think about acceptance or rejection letters.

Prepare for College in General
While your destination might be uncertain, you do know it’s a college. So start planning on what you’ll need to take with you and researching what to expect on a college campus. You should familiarize yourself with how cafeterias work and living situations of dorm rooms. If you applied with no major in mind, then start thinking about what you might want to study.

Spend Time With Friends and Family
It’s highly likely that most of your friends will be heading in separate directions after high school. Now is the time to do as many things as possible before it’s too late. And once you start going to college, time at home becomes less and less frequent so cherish it.

It’s easy plugging away some data like your date of birth or your high school GPA into a college application. The hard part is writing a clear, effective college essay. While the rest of the application lets a college know what you could do at your high school, the essay shows what you can do on their campus. Here is a guide to a few things to keep in mind while trying to compose your work-of-art application:

Stay on Topic
The easiest way for applicants to mess up their essay is to head off into rambling prose. Stick to writing about the topic given in the application and to that only. If you do that, the rest of the essay should be cream cheese.

Express Your Originality
Write in a voice that is unique to you, and don’t be afraid to explore your creativity. If you find your essay to read dull and unoriginal, then so will the admissions office. Take the generic topic given in most applications and turn it into something fun.

Grab Their Attention With the First Sentence
The introduction in your college essay is kind of like your introduction to the school, so it is a very important part of your essay. Plus, admissions offices are reviewing thousands of these essays which means you only have a couple minutes to pull them in.

Be Concise
You’re not writing a book report or your whole life story. Your essay shouldn’t have any filler sentences, but it should rather flow with each sentence clear as day.

Stay Within Your Abilities
Some applicants succumb to the pressure and try to draft a masterpiece worthy of the Library of Congress. Although you certainly want to write as well as possible, you don’t want to force it and step out of your comfort zone. That means not using words that aren’t usually in your vocabulary or trying to write in a whole new style.

Your career doesn’t have to begin with your undergraduate studies. In fact, many students graduate with undergraduate degrees that aren’t in the industry they wish to work in. This leads them to graduate school to pursue the right degree that will lead them to their desired career. Applying to graduate school is much like the initial college admissions process. It should begin as early as possible, and each student needs to make sure they have all the necessary things in order.

The Right Credits
Some colleges may not allow some credits to transfer. Or they may not accept some credits as attributable to their prerequisites. This is especially true for those who received their undergrad at a different college. Grad applicants may then have to take the necessary step of enrolling in classes, possibly at a community college, prior to even starting their program.

All Necessary Tests Taken
Graduate programs might require a specific test to apply. The majority of general grad courses will require a test like the GRE. But for other programs in fields like medicine or law, they have their very own. Grad school tests are typically long and difficult, and some colleges will place more importance on them than on your past academic record.

Letters of Recommendation
Nearly every graduate program is going to require two or more letters of recommendation. These letters can’t be written by colleagues or family. Instead, colleges are expecting them to be written by respected professors and researchers, especially those in a field relative to the program you’re applying to.

Another College Essay
Just when you thought you wrote your last college essay, you have one more to go. Graduate admission essays are expected to be much more focused than those for applying to an undergraduate program. For example, it should discuss not why you deserve to be accepted, but rather what you plan on accomplishing in the field with the education you hope to get.

Once you declare a major it is not written in stone. In fact, it’s not written in stone until you pass the last required course and walk across the stage to pick up your degree. This is why it’s fairly common for students to change majors during their time at college. Some students will change majors multiple times. While it can cost you in tuition by taking so many different courses, it can also cost you to graduate with a degree you’re not happy with. So, if you’re looking to make the switch be sure to follow this simple guide.

Meet With Advisors
Students should meet with academic advisors from both the department they’re currently majoring in and one from the major they are looking to switch to. This gives you the ability to plan out what you need to do to get into the your new major and administrative details for making the change. Additionally, they can provide further details about the major to see if you would actually be interested. Students will also be able to ask any questions or address concerns they have before making the change official.

Take Summer Classes
It will be a likely scenario that you will be behind in credits in your new major once you change it, usually in prerequisites or from other courses that aren’t accepted. After a change in major, you will also likely be behind in plans to graduate in four years. This is where summer classes present a great opportunity. It can be a time to play catch up.

Cut Your Losses
Students can have a hard time changing majors because they have regrets about all of the work they’ve already put into another degree. Also, some will wonder what would have happened if they stayed with their first major. If you know your new major is the right major then it’s pointless to worry. Instead be happy you found the right one.

They say that money isn’t free, which is probably why getting a scholarship isn’t easy. Whereas getting a student loan takes a little paperwork and maybe a credit check, getting a scholarship means applying in a creative and professional way that makes you standout. Some scholarships can be attained through programs that create work assignments for you, but the majority of scholarship applications require an essay.

If you had to write an admission essay, you can get the general idea of how it all works out. For rookies, it’s a process of convincing others that you deserve what they are offering. So if you want money that you at least don’t have to pay back, here are a few tips for writing the essay to get it:

Answer the Question
Scholarships will generally ask for you to write about something that is related to the organization offering it, as well as your experience with it. It’s important to write only about what they are asking for. If you’re applying for a nursing scholarship and are writing about caring for your grandmother, don’t start going into detail about her illness.

Be Creative in Your Answer
While you surely want to stay on topic, think of creative ways to write about it. Try to build a unique angle, or recount a unique experience that might put you above the other candidates.

Proof and Edit It
One way your scholarship essay can be quickly dismissed is if it has grammatical errors. Most organizations won’t be looking for the next Shakespeare, but they don’t want to see misspellings and improper comma usage.

Have It Peer Reviewed
It’s helpful to have some feedback from peers, like family, friends or even teachers. Trying to find one’s own mistakes can be difficult and it’s always helpful to receive suggestions from others. If you can’t impress your mom, you might more work to do.

If you grew up watching Star Trek or had a subscription to Popular Science since you were 9 years old, then chances are you are a science buff. And chances are that you are interested in a career in science. But before you become commissioned from NASA to design the very first Starfleet you need the right education.

This means going to college and taking the right major. In the case of a trekkie it could be aeronautics or astrophysics, but there is a whole slew of science majors available for the biggest of science buffs.

Engineering
There isn’t a basic engineer these days. Instead, there are civil, mechanical and environmental engineers and many others. Nuclear engineers are designing new ways to harness extreme power, while computer engineers are formulating new ways for people to share information. While they all have some hand in creating and designing things large and small, which one is good for you is dependent on what matters most. Making bombs, or saving trees?

Biology
The majors within biological science are much more heroic than people think. There is microbiology which is at the forefront of fighting diseases, as well as finding new forms of life on the planet and beyond. Food biologists on the other hand are working to eliminate hunger by genetically altering food sources so that they grow more abundantly and at faster harvest rates. Meanwhile, evolutionary biologists are finding things out about the past while at the same time finding out things about the present and future.

Chemistry
Researchers in chemistry are doing much more in labs than lighting things with Bunsen burners or mixing blue things with red things. Instead, scientists that head majors like biochemistry and organic chemistry are building new materials that have never existed before, at least not on Earth. Such materials might hold the key to solving major disasters or advancing space travel.

But with that tuition comes the opportunity to create all they want and under the tutelage of a respected instructor.

While picking a major as an artist seems like a straight forward affair–painting for the painter and sculpting for the sculptor–there is much more available, with greater rewards both financially and personally.

Those colorful ads that are splashed across billboards, magazines and on commercials aren’t created by ad executives sipping drinks in expensive suits. They are made by artists from a plethora of backgrounds. Many are former painters or even cartoonists. Advertising is a great major for artists as ad agencies always need creative people and because companies will always allocate money to buy ads.

Graphic Design
Artists that are willing to learn the applications of multimedia will find a career in graphic design. Jobs range from creating graphics that could appear in everything from movies to ads to merchandise. In this field, artists can create what they want and then just let others take their creation to make something else out of it.

Web Design
The major of designing web pages is more of a functional field in which creations need to be useful. But it is also an industry with high job demand since every business needs website today. In this field artists can utilize nearly everything in their repertoire from drawing to painting tools.

Packaging and Merchandise Design
The creative minds of artists can find use of their talents in creative ways. One such example is majoring in the design or engineering of packages and merchandise. Everything from the interior of vehicle to the sleek exterior of an Apple computer is the work of a artist.

College is the time when a parent has to finally let their children grow up as it is the time when their children finally head out on their own. Some parents have trouble with this aspect, as they start to miss having a loved one in the house that depends on them. Luckily for parents in this group, there is one last thing they can help their children do, and it’s an important one. The college admission process is thorough affair, and students can use a little help during it all. Here are a few ways in which parents can lend one last helping hand.

Write the Application Checks
Applying to a school costs money, usually anywhere from $30 to $75 dollars. For a child that is applying to multiple schools, the cost of applications can add up to much more than their allowance money. Parents should just consider it an investment in their education.

Place Applications in the Mail
If your college-bound child decides to apply to schools through the mail, they may need to get them to the post office. Since parents are better suited than their digitally-oriented children to handle postal operations, like calculating postage costs, it could be an area where a parent can flourish.

Give Deadline Reminders
Parents have calendars on the refrigerator and day planners. Children on the other hand have Facebook. Guess who might be better at knowing what the date is?

Help Review Essays
It is highly recommended that applicants have people review their essays to not only find mistakes, but to provide some positive feedback. Parents can play the role of editor and get essays in tip top shape.

Be Supportive
Being supportive is what parents do best, and what they are there for. The college admissions process can mean getting rejection letters along with acceptance letters. If your child is rejected from the college of their choice, let them know that there are perfect alternatives.

While it’s true that the education that you receive in college is designed for the career that you will have after, the reality is that many students don’t know what they want to do even though they have a major chosen. Choosing a career is hard even if you know what industry you want to work in, and the same goes if you know what position you want but are uncertain about the industry.

However, college is a perfect place to sort it all out. It’s where students can experience new things and meet new people. And it’s where they can discover what they really enjoy. Here are ways to choose a career while still studying.

Internships
The rite of passage for any college student is taking an internship during the summer. On average, a college student will take two or three internships. Students should be very selective in the businesses they apply to. One internship should be in the career they think they would most like to have, but many students will be surprised that a job they wanted is not what it seems. Another internship should be taken somewhere that might be a little different but would provide valuable experience.

Watch Job Market Trends
Job trends have the ability to change in the span of two or three years. If there is a high demand for something now, it could lead to a glut of workers in the future. But if a market is just emerging with high expectations, students might want to direct their education towards a career there.

Run a Gamut of Courses
Learning about the various industries and careers available in your major’s profession can be done easily by taking courses along the entire spectrum of the field. Students certainly shouldn’t jeopardize their studies to take a course in something from out of left field, but for electives it should be encouraged to take a look at something different.

When most people think about scholarships that provide someone with a full ride to a college, they tend to think about only athletes. While student athletes get the most attention–possibly because of the controversies in college athletics–there are many students that are being rewarded full rides because of their academic abilities. However, getting a full ride scholarship is not a very easy thing to accomplish.

It is a heck of an academic achievement in its own right. Any student can cover tuition costs with student loans, but they come with repayment options that come with interest. So only a few students qualify with having their entire schooling paid for, which is why colleges consider full rides as an investment.

Most students assume that all they need to qualify for a full ride scholarship is a report card with straight As. Instead, colleges prefer to see reports cards with advanced placement classes on it, even if they come with Bs. Colleges want to see someone with the ability to handle college level courses and won’t be overwhelmed.

Test scores also play a tremendous part in giving out a full ride scholarship. Not just any test, but the standardized tests like the ACT and SAT. These tests cover the spectrum of academic subjects in schools and can signify a students range of knowledge and ability to perform under pressure. These test scores provide better insight into a student’s capabilities since educational standards can differ across the country. Standards could be more vigorous in one states than another. A standardized test can make up for disparities.

With all things considered, a college will still have numerous students that meet these requirements exceptionally. At this point colleges may consider other things like school organizations or clubs the student was involved it, or if they were in athletics. A college is going to want to be as sure as possible that they are paying for the right person.

For athletic high school stand outs that end up not receiving an athletic scholarship from one of their primary choices when they graduate, it isn’t the end of the road. Athletes should know something about getting back up and forging ahead. This is one of those cases. College athletic department can extend scholarships at any time during a student’s college career. If you’re one of these students, then here is your chance to win some glory and a free education.

Get on the Team
The first step just might the hardest. It will take extra time training and trying to perfect the skills a team might be looking for even though to you can’t really know what they are. However, aspiring student athletes can take the time to try and meet with coaches, and if you can show a little potential, possibly even train with them in the off season. Each year, however, every college athletic program has try outs. This is the chance to show coaches what you got and get on the team.

Perform on the Field
Once you’re on the team it doesn’t mean you automatically get a scholarship. It just means that you are a walk-on. Many walk-ons will go on to have successful college careers without ever having a scholarship. This is because athletic scholarships are limited. A coach has to use them wisely to lure the best players possible to the program. But sometimes luck is on as student athlete’s side as players transfer or go on to the pros, opening up more scholarships than usually available. If you can prove your worth on the field, they just might decide to dedicate one to you.

Perform in Class
Walk-on athletes have a better chance in obtaining an athletic scholarship if they have a record of academic achievement too. Schools prefer to reward their students that excel in the classroom as well as on the field.

There are literally thousands of scholarships available to college students, and it can be exhausting trying to research all of them. The majority of them are for general academic achievement and can awarded to anyone. When a student has looked through all of those it can be debilitating not winning a single one. But missing out on those just might mean that you are looking in the wrong place. The most effective area for a student to search for scholarships is in those only offered to students in your major. This way you know that the pool of candidates is much smaller and that you are much more qualified.

There are three areas students should search when looking for a scholarship offered for their major. Within each are many options, and many offering varying amounts. But, all of them can potentially add up.

Corporations
Corporations and businesses have no choice but to be invested in education. That is because that is where their future employees are coming from. With this in mind many corporations offer their own scholarships. Find large companies in the industry of your major and get writing. Some of them, with large amounts, may come with strings attached like working for them upon graduation. But what’s wrong with having a job ready when you graduate, too?

Organizations/Societies
Many organizations or societies that cover a specific industry, for everything from advertising to manufacturing, provide many tools for recent graduates and current college students. They may offer their very own scholarship or a list of places that do. Most will at least have companies or other member groups that do.

Charities and Scholarship Funds
When some wealthy people die, they choose to pass on their wealth in a way that guarantees the future of their interests or their professions. The most common way they do this is by opening a scholarship fund or charity. Students should study some of their major’s premier alumnus.

Dust off those weathered notebooks, pull out that sweet Jansport bag with Led Zeppelin patches and get that beer bong ready because you are going back to school. In times of economic uncertainty, or really disaster, many people have to try and restart their careers. Some of them nearly from scratch. Either their occupation has been completely eliminated, or they find the change as an opportunity to try something new.

But as an older adult, going to back school can be frustrating process. It just might leave you asking your children for tips on filling out college applications. However, adults shouldn’t fret. It may take a little longer to get your credentials together than an 18-year old, but you will probably come off as a better candidate for acceptance. Just remember these few things:

Transcripts
What was your high school GPA again? It isn’t embarrassing to forget, and those records aren’t lost to history. You can still contact your high school and have them pull them from their records. Even though it might have been long ago, colleges will still be interested in your academic work when you’re only concern should have been grades.

Resume
This is where you will have an advantage over other applicants. Older adults should touch up their resume and include it with their application. It will provide a detailed blueprint of what you can do with their education.

Essay
Every applicant will have to write out an admission essay, and it’s a big consideration for admission officials. Again, older adults have the upper hand. While they may have to dust off their English skills, they have a spate of experience to write about.

Mailed Applications
If your profession completely missed the computer revolution and you don’t know how to post a tweet, don’t worry. For one, applications can still be submitted through the mail. Also, feel comforted that colleges will offer courses in using computers and software.
